A year of iOS Indie Hacking

A list of git commits

I have been building iOS apps for a year now, and learned a ton.

A few days ago marks my first anniversary of iOS Indie Hacking. I was always intrigued by iOS development: The animations are slick, performance is great and there are lots of creative opportunities.

Coming from a web dev background, a lot of skills were transferable in picking up SwiftUI, but I also hit a lot of road blocks along the way. I did ship a bug into a live app, and I just couldn’t figure out what the issue was while negative reviews kept coming in. 😬 But although there’s been ups and downs in the learning journey, I’m glad that I stuck with it!

After a year of Indie Hacking I’ve got four apps on the App Store, a community of awesome users and even some recurring revenue coming in! Most importantly, I learned a ton. It’s a joy to be able to refactor old code now, or fix a bug much faster than before. Learning Swift also impacted my web dev chops positively. Different languages expose you to different mental models.

So if there’s a language you were thinking about trying–go for it! If you’re learning and building–stick with it 😄
